Welcome to the City of Monash Parks Alive pilot project. This project is lead by local residents in partnership with Monash City Council. The purpose of this project is to provide local residents with an opportunity to initiate greening activities within Glen Waverley North Reserve(GWNR). If you live in the vicinity of GWNR, have some ideas about greening the park and/or would like to get involved in planting and maintenance we want to hear from you. We would like to know what plant’s you would like to see more of and where? Let your mind run free and let us know what you would like to see.
This pilot project is being conducted as a test for potential roll-out across all parks and communal green spaces in Monash.
Take a Walk
Parks Alive Monash was created to give local residents the opportunity to come together, get their hands dirty, be with nature, share a yarn, bond with country and make our local parks more beautiful and biodiverse. While we welcome big grand ideas, we are especially interested in those smaller more affordable and easily to implement ideas.
We invite you to take a walk round Glen Waverley North Reserve, have a think about what you would like to see and email us with your thoughts. They can be detailed ideas or just a few words about your general ideas for the park and to let us know if you are interested in helping out.
Working with Ground Staff
This project is being undertaken in partnership with Monash City Council Ground Staff. We will be drawing on their years of experience, working in GWNR and the knowledge they have gained. The ground staff are open to Co-Designing GWNR with local residents where we share our thoughts and ideas and they share theirs and together we come up with a plan for the whole park.
Council biodiversity and sustainability teams are also involved in this pilot project.
Participatory Urbanism
This project was inspired by Participatory Urbanism movements happening all over the world. Participatory urbanism invites community members to co-create the future of their cities. It moves beyond consultation into real collaboration, where local knowledge, lived experiences, and collective imagination become essential tools in the planning process. Whether it’s redesigning a park, rethinking traffic flow, or creating more inclusive public spaces, the goal is to make cities not just more efficient—but more just, vibrant, and responsive to human needs.
Participatory Urbanism acknowledges that people who live in a place are experts in their own way. By making space for their voices, we build not just better cities—but stronger communities. Read more HERE
How to get Involved
If you are interested in joining the Friends Of Glen Waverley North group then simply send us an email with the subject line:“I am in!” If you have taken a walk and have some ideas, then please share them.
In the future we will be sharing all the ideas and inviting the community to co-design the overall plan. As well as mapping out ongoing projects and a schedule of work. (Working Bees)
If you have any questions please ask and please do tell your friends and neighbours about this project.
